A Wild Spring Green, "Gardenized"

I love my Miner's Lettuce!

Brought one of these beauties home from a Metachosin organic CSA farm last summer. It's now grown into several plants in my garden - YEAH!

Miner's lettuce is a native, wild green found here in the forested landscapes of Western B.C. It was given the name during the California Gold Rush as 'once upon a time' miners ate it to get their vitamin C to prevent scurvy. It's an early spring green (just like the dandelion) and makes a great addition to salads. It's kinda like spinach in taste - and definitely a lovely looking green. I'm having fun adding them to my Sensational Salad's this spring!

P.S. See if you can spot a plant or two the next time you take a hike through nature :)

"Springing" into the 2013 growing season!

Pictures taken first week 2 weeks of April:

Getting "salad" planters ready for upcoming plant sales!

The trees are lovely.

Even the vegetables look lovely in flower.

I love self-seeding greens :) Japanese mustard back again!

Always nice to end the day in the garden, with fresh garden goodies for dinner! Enjoying our chard steamed tonight!

Can't wait to bring this out again at community events for people to have fun & interact with.

Back at the Bees Baby!

First time back in the hive after the long winter break. Looking good. No swarm cells, and lots of baby bees (larva), an active queen and a happy colony that's growing.

Scraping off the burr comb. You can see the drone (male) cells and baby larva.  So awesome!

Easter Weekend in the Garden

Spring is definitely here!

Wasabi in full bloom!

Collards making a come back!

Getting the beds ready. (Mixing in the fall rye).

Yeah, the peas are coming up!

The garlic grows.

Ready for Raspberries!

A bee haven!

The herbs are awakening.

So are the strawberries.

And the hops are really hopping to it!

An awesome weekend playing the garden. Easter Long weekend was gorgeous!
